Mums I feel you, finding time to exercise can feel like an uphill battle, but I promise it’s achievable! These are some things I do to make sure movement is a part of my daily life. Hopefully they help you too… and any tips you have pls add in the comments!
1. Their nap time = your workout time!
Squeeze in a 10-20 min workout as they nap. By the end of nap-time, you’ll both be feeling more energised!
2. Split workouts into chunks
On the days when you can’t find 20 mins, break up your workout into smaller parts. 5 mins here and there adds up!
3. Exercise with your kids
Do activities together like walking or dancing. It’s also fun to do fitness challenges - who can do 20 star jumps the quickest? - or teach them your fave Pilates exercises.
4. Add movement when you can
While cooking, waiting for the kettle, or running the bath, instead of scrolling, do some squats! Even make chores into mini workouts like doing bicep curls with your shopping!
5. Start at-home workouts
They’re a game-changer for parents, allowing you to fit exercise around your schedule while even keeping your kids in sight. Designate a workout space in your home and make the most of any minutes you can spare.
6. Workout with mum friends
Partner up with another mum for accountability, ideally a neighbour! You can workout together while your kids play, join up for family walks and motivate each other.
7. Use screen time wisely
If you’re comfortable with giving your kids some screen time, it can be an ideal opportunity to work out. Just let them know that as soon as your workout is finished, the show goes off!
And most importantly, be kind to yourself! Some days will inevitably be more chaotic than others, and that's perfectly okay. Don’t worry if you miss a workout, the focus is consistency over perfection.
